TCEQ Irrigation Practice Exam

Adjusting irrigation schedules seasonally is essential because plant water requirements fluctuate throughout the year, primarily due to changes in temperature, humidity, and plant growth stages. During the growing season, plants typically need more water as they develop leaves, flowers, and fruits. Conversely, during cooler months or when plants are dormant, their water requirements decrease significantly.

By aligning irrigation practices with these seasonal changes, you can ensure that plants receive the appropriate amount of water to thrive without wasting resources. Properly timed irrigation also helps avoid issues such as waterlogging or drought stress, both of which can adversely affect plant health and productivity. Maintaining this balance contributes to optimal growth conditions and sustainable use of water resources, reinforcing the importance of tailoring irrigation schedules to the specific needs of plants at different times of the year.
